Bemobi anticipates contactless Pix for essential service sectors

Feature offers convenience, practicality, and security in instant, contactless transactions.

February 2025 – Bemobi, a leader in essential recurring payment solutions, announces the launch of contactless Pix and is preparing its more than five thousand SmartPOS terminals across Brazil to enable its clients to receive payments through this modality—anticipating the official timeline set by the Central Bank. The service is currently being implemented for major energy distributors such as Light and Equatorial, as well as in the education sector with institutions like Grupo Salta.

According to data from ABECS (Brazilian Association of Credit Card and Services Companies), 61% of consumers already use contactless payment methods regularly. With contactless Pix, consumers will gain another convenient option, allowing for instant and contactless transactions.

Contactless Pix works similarly to digital wallet card payments, such as Google Pay. To make a payment, the customer simply brings their smartphone close to a payment terminal, like a POS machine, and authorizes the transaction using biometric authentication or another security method.

The integration of new Pix functionalities is a fundamental pillar of Bemobi’s strategy. That’s why we are ahead of the Central Bank’s initiative and have already prepared our payment terminals for this modality.

For consumers, contactless Pix reduces friction in the payment process by simplifying transactions and eliminating steps like opening a banking app, which is required for QR code payments. For businesses, in addition to being a fast and efficient option, it also helps reduce delinquency.

Two additional features set to revolutionize recurring payments for essential services in Brazil are:

  • Biometric Pix, which will optimize digital (online) Pix payment journeys and is expected in the first quarter.
  • Automatic Pix, allowing customers to schedule recurring bill payments without the need for monthly confirmations, set to launch in June.

For Bemobi’s CTO/CPO, Felipe Goldin, the implementation of new technologies is a crucial step toward the future of payments in Brazil.

These new features represent a significant opportunity for evolution, moving towards a more digital and automated experience. Soon, this should significantly reduce the use of traditional bank payment slips.

Contactless Pix is here to provide our customers with a more practical and efficient payment option. We are excited to anticipate this feature, which will bring more security and flexibility.

Traditionally, the recurring billing sector for essential services such as energy, education, telecommunications, and healthcare has relied mainly on bank slips as the standard payment method. In a less digitalized and banked Brazil, this method played a crucial role in collecting payments for basic services, serving a large portion of the population, both banked and unbanked.

Over the past five years, Bemobi has specialized in recurring payments, initially supporting mobile operators with digital plans based on credit card billing. This focus and expertise have enabled Bemobi to develop technological platforms that optimize the collection of recurring payments, reduce delinquency, and enhance customer loyalty.
