August 2025Sabesp, the largest sanitation company in Brazil and one of the largest in the world, has begun offering Automatic Pix payment to its customers, marking one of the first implementations of its kind in the country since the feature was launched by the Central Bank in June. The innovation was made possible by Bemobi (BMOB3), a leader in specialized payment solutions in Brazil, serving 12 of the 15 largest recurring service companies. Bemobi acted as the integrator between Sabesp and the banking system.

The new feature is available to all Sabesp customers via WhatsApp, mobile app, online agency (web), and SmartPOS (smart card machine). It will also soon be available on physical bills. The experience is simple and secure: after paying a bill via Pix, the user receives a notification from their banking app asking if they want to subscribe to Automatic Pix. Upon acceptance, future payments are automatically debited on the due date without requiring further authorization.

Automatic Pix enables recurring payments via Pix, removing the barriers of traditional direct debit that have limited its adoption by companies and offering consumers greater convenience, control, and transparency.

Felipe Goldin, CTO/CPO of Bemobi

More than just integration with Automatic Pix, Bemobi adopted a strategic approach to ensure maximum efficiency in Sabesp’s collections. The solution developed translates the direct debit standards already used by the company into messages compatible with the Pix ecosystem, allowing seamless adoption without requiring deep changes to legacy systems.

Additionally, Bemobi implemented a multi-rail architecture that enables multiple collection attempts through different payment methods, such as credit card or boleto, always in a coordinated and intelligent manner. This ensures greater reliability and significantly reduces delinquency.

Another factor contributing to the operation's success is the use of machine learning technology to predict the optimal billing time. The company uses predictive models based on consumers’ historical behavior to maximize payment success—boosting conversion without increasing collection efforts.

Complementing this strategy is the use of alternative communication channels, such as WhatsApp, via the Grace platform. This solution sends proactive reminders, personalized payment links, and automated confirmations, providing a smooth experience for the consumer while reducing operational effort and costs for Sabesp.

Automatic Pix is another solution Sabesp has developed to make life easier for our customers. We are modernizing the entire service journey and aim to make the experience as fast and digital as possible.

Denis Maia, Executive Director of Customer Service and Technology at Sabesp

With Bemobi’s technology, all Sabesp customers, regardless of their bank, can subscribe to Automatic Pix. The company is also prepared to support future Pix features planned by the Central Bank.

This initiative reinforces Bemobi’s commitment to leading the digitalization of recurring payments in Brazil, acting as an orchestration platform between bill issuers, financial institutions, digital wallets, and payment methods such as credit card and Pix.
